Rank Strangers about to hit the road

(6/3/2014) Eric sent this note to Rank Stranger veterans and about 100 other friends of Rank Strangers

Friends:
We are going for 10.  Incredibly, it is that time again: the Rank Strangers team is ready to go in the annual 200-mile Madison-Chicago run relay race ("Ragnar Chicago").  The non-stop action starts in Madison on Friday morning and will end Saturday afternoon at Belmont Harbor in Chicago.

Two new runners join us (Suzanne and Greg) to bring to 49 the total who have made the journey as Rank Strangers.

We are the only team to run every year of the race.

As usual, you will be able to follow progress on our web site,  http://www.rankstrangers.info/, as well as on Twitter (@RankStrangers ).
The 2014 team, with the number of prior appearances in parentheses:
Jeff Shampo (9)
Eric Engdahl (9)
Art Saffran (8)
Renee Roux (6)
Pete Boll (4)
Paul Miller (1)
Bo Lackey (1)
Ed Stojakovic (2)
Steve Hill (4)
Cathy Jooste (1)
Suzanne Holmes
Greg Masenthin

During the non-stop relay, each team member runs three legs, each leg ranging between 3 - 10 miles.
We have two large vans, with six runners in each. The first vehicle will watch the first runner begin, drive ahead a few miles, cheer the runner on, and provide them with water, snacks, and encouragement. That vehicle will then drive ahead to the first exchange point to drop off the second runner, and pick up the runner completing the first leg. The pattern repeats for six legs until they hand the baton to the second vehicle. This leapfrogging pattern will continue all the way to the finish line;  it will take us approximately 30 hours to cover the distance.

A few amusing videos to fill out the picture -->   http://rankstrangers.blogspot.com/2011/08/video-introduction-to-run-relays.html

I can't wait to hit the road!

Eric
