We made it!

The blogging was not so good (sorry about that!) but the Rank Strangers team enjoyed a happy ending to the Madison - Chicago run relay at Montrose Harbor yesterday afternoon.  Our 31 hours time was on our predicted pace, though two unplanned course additions (3.8 miles to avoid a broken bridge and 2.2 miles) made the planned 195.4 race a record 201.4 miles.

Was it the best race ever for Rank Strangers?  Van #1 says so, and it was loaded with veterans including 9-timer Jeff Shampo.

Our 12 person team boasted 7 newcomers: Bo Lackey, Bill Shepard, Therese Nolan, Beth Fegan, Pati Flannery, Tim Scott and Paul Miller.   Therese, Beth, Pati  and Tim had experience with other run relay teams and taught us some new tricks. Paul peppered the twittersphere with great pictures (see @MillerRoad ).

The 2013 team, with the number of prior appearances in parentheses:

Renee Roux (5)
Pete Boll (3)
Paul Miller

My co-captain, Mark Clear (7), was the Van #1 driver this year.

Our team's story is on this blog ( http://www.rankstrangers.blogspot.com/2013/06/rank-strangers-go-for-ninth-madison.html ); we are the only team to run all 9 years of the race, starting well before the current "Ragnar Chicago" phase.

Rank Strangers (l to r) Hunched over in front (is this why my back hurt the next day?): Therese Nolan, Beth Fegan, Eric Engdahl,  Paul Miller, Bill Shepard.  Back: Tim Scott, Pete Boll, Renee Roux, Bo Lackey, Jeff Shampo, Art Saffran.
