I changed a setting to see if I could get the lines of text to flow rather than break off...
Ah, all this takes me back ... two years ago when the Strangers ran the first GMR, Eric was also the first runner out of Van #2. He took the stick and took off. The rest of his teammates hopped in the van and took off, too ... IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. Fortunately, we realized our mistake before we got too far away.
We turned around, headed back towards where we thought Eric was, and intersected the trail he was on. We waited ... and waited ... and waited ... and then reasoned he'd already passed that part of the trail. So, back in the van it was and on to the next transition area.
He used the cell phone, while running, to call our van, asking "I'm just about at the transition area. Where are you?" We pulled up just ahead him, giving me just enough time to get out, get the stick, and get running.
Needless to say, it was our worst exchange of the event. We got better after that.
