By happy chance I was in SE London on the morning of the London Marathon and walked out to see the elite women pass 12 miles. The 6th runner in this group, in red kit, is Ethiopia’s Tigist Tufa who was the surprise winner. From race account: "With the race billed as a battle between the ‘Fantastic Four’ of Mary Keitany, Edna Kiplagat, Florence Kiplagat and Priscah Jeptoo, all eyes were on the Kenyan quartet before the start.
All four were in prime position, neatly nestled in among the leading bunch as the race reached the closing stages, but it was Tufa, 28, who caught her rivals off guard with the first burst of a slowly run race after 22 miles.
The sudden surge was enough to open up a lead over her rivals and the Ethiopian was rewarded for her courage to take victory in 2hr 23min 22sec and become her country’s first female champion in London since Derartu Tulu in 2001."
